Jen & I met in Ocean City, MD in 1992 where we worked at the same store for the summer. We went to college together and lived and worked together at the beach again the next summer. We have been great friends ever since. Both of us have watched and taken care of the most influential people in our lives - our parents. Jen's dad had Pulmonary Fibrosis and lost his battle on Christmas Eve 2006. My mom fought for over 12 years and lost her battle with Breast Cancer in January 2009. Through these tragic events Jen and I found that making jewelry/crafts is both relaxing and rewarding for us. Then we started talking and said, "why don't we sell our creations." We love doing it and it feels great when people comment on the craftsmanship.
Who We Are:
Jen has several degrees in Art and has always been very "crafty." Amber has worked in accounts payable, receivable and accounting, with the added ability to learn anything in about 5 minutes. So we are a perfect match. With Jen's artistic abilities and Amber's financial knowledge we can accomplish anything. Also, both of us have kicked around the idea of starting our own business for years. This is our perfect opportunity! Please check out our online store and let us know what you think. We hope that you find something that you like. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to call or email us. We want you to share in our excitement!
amberjen@kisstheskydesigns.comFUNDRAISERS:
Hello, it's Amber, and my mom, Donna Primo-Dowell, battled breast cancer for over 12 years. Unfortunately, my mom lost her battle with cancer on January 9, 2009 - her 57th birthday.
In 1996, my mom was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer involving 22 malignant lymph nodes. To treat this disease, she underwent mastectomy surgery and removal of the 22 lymph nodes. She also endured radical chemotherapy, a clinical trial bone marrow transplant, and radiation treatment. This combination of treatments was successful in forcing her cancer into remission.
After 5 years of being cancer free, my mom decided to celebrate the life she had fought to hold on to by having a party. During the planning of the party she realized she could use the event to raise money for cancer research, and she would donate every penny to the cause. Since her first Bash was fairly successful she decided to make it an annual event, and its success has grown steadily every year since. That is how the Donna Primo-Dowell’s Beating Cancer Bash was created. My mom wanted to be proactive and do something that could benefit her survival as well as others. With her passing, it was her wish that I and the other committee members continue with the annual bash as well as raising funds for cancer research.
There is no greater source of survival than cancer research. Unfortunately, research funds are not as prevalent as you may think. That’s why Donna made it her mission to raise funds for this worthy cause. The Donna Primo-Dowell’s Beating Cancer Bash committee is a small group, but we feel our efforts can make a difference. I hope we can count on your support.
Since we began, the Donna Primo-Dowell’s Beating Cancer Bash has raised over $89,000. The proceeds of this year’s event will be donated to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center at Green Spring Station, Pavilion II, 10753 Falls Road, Suite 415, Lutherville, MD 21093. Proceeds to benefit all types of cancer research. www.hopkinskimmelcancercenter.org.
We hope you will consider helping us raise funds by making a donation. The 10th annual Donna Primo-Dowell’s Beating Cancer Bash is scheduled for March 27, 2010 at the UAW Hall, located in Baltimore, Maryland. (Tickets must be purchased before the event. We only have 400 tickets, so if you are interested in attending the Bull & Oyster roast, please contact me at the emial listed above.)Your support and commitment can make a tremendous impact in the lives of so many people. Should you decide to donate, please make your check payable to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and write “Donna Primo-Dowell” in the memo line.
